Launching O Litoral Para Crianças (C4K in Portuguese!)

We proudly present “O Litoral para Crianças” (LPC), the adaptation of C4K for Portugal. This is the first translation of the series into another language!

Examples of new avatars, location maps, illustrations and photographs added to LPC.

LPC required a number of tasks masterfully completed by Dr Ana Matias and Dr Susana Costas (Universidade do Algarve) and Dr Carlos Loureiro (University of Stirling). Original C4K team members Irene Delgado-Fernandez and Sion Morris collaborated in the adaptation.

The new episodes involved translating the script to Portuguese and adapting the content to the reality of coastal zones in the Algarve (e.g., by adding new photographs and elaborating new illustrations).

Most important, the new episodes involved casting seven new kids to narrate the episodes in off-voice, as well as working with volunteer families for sound recording.

The LPC Team: Ana Matias, Susana Costas (U. Algarve), Carlos Loureiro (U. Stirling), Sion Morris and Irene Delgado-Fernandez (U. Cadiz), with new narrations by Carolina, Inês, Vicente, Maria, Beatriz and Francisca.

The result is a wonderful new set of video resources that effectively works for the target audience in Portugal and that can be used in other Portuguese-speaking countries. With O Litoral Para Crianças, we expand the cultural and educational reach of the overall project.

The launch party was on 25 June 2022 at the Centro Ciência Viva do Algarve, to celebrate the contributions of children and their families to the project, and to introduce the local community to the videos. All episodes well played in a large screen, and kids were awarded a custom-made pin with their avatars.

Pins with the episodes´ avatars for all LPC kids.

We hope to enrich the mosaic of geographical diversity by creating new C4K versions in the future.

Today, we celebrate the launch of the new series and sincerely thank all the new kids and families involved!
